School sport infrastructure changes in Surrey

The Government announcements about School Sport Partnerships (SSP) infrastructure in October last year resulted in a reduction in funding and a refocus on competitive sport for this academic year 2011-12.

The intention is to enhance Surrey’s existing sporting pathways, integrating them with a national School Games programme that will develop all pupils with sport as the tool.

Key to this work is the employment of School Games Organisers (SGO) which will support school staff and provide links to community clubs and providers. Lottery funding has been made available to each SSP Hub School to employ a part-time SGO.

A coordinated plan of action has been agreed that has enabled the six SSP Hub Schools to pool their Sport England lottery funding and commission Active Surrey to employ four full-time posts on their behalf.
