Coronavirus update & training

Due to current restrictions we have suspended all face to face training for the forseeable future, although please note our new provision for online safeguarding training. 

We will post a further message here when the situation changes and courses can either be delivered in group sessions, or more are delivered online.

Surrey Sports Workshops

These workshops, some of which have preferential rates for Surrey clubs or residents, provide coaching and club personnel with the opportunity to build their knowledge and in some cases can satisfy regulatory requirements. 

(We also organise separate school teacher CPD and training.)

Most workshops listed below can be booked and paid for online via Surrey County Council's payment system – please ensure you read our Booking Conditions .

Once booked, full details of the workshop will be emailed to all delegates approximately one week before the date of the event.

First Aid for Sport

Please note this course is not suitable for tennis coaches who want to use the certificate as part of their Coach Licence. 

This four hour theoretical and practical First Aid workshop is tailored for sport coaches and fitness professionals. 

In the workshop you will cover:

  • Aims and principles of first aid
  • Injury prevention
  • Incident management
  • Head injuries
  • Treatment of unconsciousness
  • Resuscitation
  • Fractures
  • Other related issues
  • Soft tissue injuries
  • Sports specific topics
  • Conditions which may affect the sports person

Who should attend:

Anybody involved with the delivery of sport. For example coaches (except for tennis), leaders, instructors, development officials, team managers, players, volunteers and parents.

To book First Aid for Sport

Please read our booking conditions and then select either Surrey resident/club (£70) or Non-Surrey resident (£80) below, along with the date you wish to attend. You will then be redirected to our booking system which is hosted by Surrey County Council. Once booked, details about the workshop will be sent a week before the workshop date.

Concessions available for Surrey Clubmark clubs listed by Sport England, students, those on job seekers, people registered as disabled, and carers receiving carers allowance. Please email sport.workshops@surreycc.gov.uk with evidence to apply for a discounted place.


 

Safeguarding & Protecting Children

Online safeguarding courses

UK Coaching currently have options including an 'online classroom' for their initial safeguarding course, and another 'learn at home' module for renewals

This workshop aims to increase awareness of safeguarding and protecting children, helping coaches recognise signs of abuse and poor practice. It also helps encourage a review of coaching practice to ensure children receive the best possible experience.

Delivered by UK Coaching

Please note: the FA only accept their own Safeguarding qualifications.

In the workshop you will cover:

  • identifying and acknowledging good coaching practice and its implications
  • exploring values and feelings in relation to child abuse and understanding how these may potentially impact on responses
  • recognising and responding to the signs and symptoms of child abuse and poor practice
  • taking appropriate action if concerns about a child arise

Who should attend:

Anybody involved with the delivery of children’s sport - coaches, leaders, instructors, development officials, committee members, administrators, and volunteers. 

Attendees must be 18+ or attend with an adult.

You'll then be redirected to our booking system which is hosted by Surrey County Council.  Please note that minimum attendee numbers are required for any course to run.

Advanced safeguarding training

People who have attended one of our Safeguarding and Protecting Children workshops can now access the wide range of specialist safeguarding training available through the Surrey Safeguarding Children Partnership without needing to attend a SSCP foundation course.

Mental Health Awareness for Sport and Physical Activity (E-learning)

Gain the confidence to be able to support people experiencing mental health problems, and help them to thrive inside and outside of your sessions.

This course is suitable for anyone who works in sports clubs, community sport and physical activity – such as coaches, activators, sports administrators, front of house staff or volunteers.

Safeguarding Adults (E-Learning)

This workshop will give anyone who wants to access safeguarding learning, the knowledge and confidence to safeguard adults in sport and physical activity sessions.

The online course is also the first to be endorsed by the Chartered Institute for the Management of Sport and Physical Activity (CIMSPA). Completing the course will give learners three Developmental CIMSPA CPD points.
