FREE training and event for 7-16 year olds

The Specsavers Surrey Youth Games is the biggest multi-sport youth programme of its kind in the South East, offering FREE local training for 7-16 year olds, leading to a final celebratory event for the whole family.

The Games are for beginners who may not get the chance to attend clubs, or are inactive and put off by the thought of competing against others. The focus is on joining in, having a go and having fun. in order to learn new skills and boost confidence.

Free training started after Easter across the county's boroughs and districts (excluding Tandridge for 2023), with all teams coming together for a family-friendly event at the Surrey Sports Park in Guildford on Sat June 17.

Those that couldn’t sign up this year were still able to come along on the day and explore the family zone where there were a variety of free activities. Those taking part in the games were also encouraged to allow time to investigate what else was on offer. There was lots to try including: Climbing, Soft archery, Football skills, Fencing, Skateboarding, Martial arts, Circus skills and much more.

Every year we write a report showing the impact the Games have had on the young people of Surrey. Here is the 2023 impact report or see the plain text version.

Each year we are welcomed back to the world-class facilities at Surrey Sports Park in Guildford, who act as venue sponsor.

To reduce the Games' environmental footprint and support hard pressed families we worked with boroughs and districts to provide further help with travel to the celebratory event in Guildford.

And of course, the whole training and event programme wouldn't exist without support from our headline sponsor, Specsavers. Thanks to them all.

Why we run the Games

Building positive habits early in life is vital for children’s long term health and the Specsavers Surrey Youth Games exist to get the county’s young people to be active. The formal objectives are:

  1. More young people reporting a positive attitude towards sport and building an active lifestyle through participation
  2. Sustained increase in levels of physical activity amongst inactive young people
  3. Increased positive engagement of less advantaged young people
