FANS
What is FANS?
The Free Access to National Sportspeople (FANS) scheme provides national level sportspeople with free access to training facilities. FANS aims to assist elite sports people to achieve their full potential by reducing the financial burden of training costs. The Surrey FANS scheme was launched in 1996 and has so far helped hundreds of national sportspeople with free access to training facilities.
Eligibility
To be eligible for the scheme you must be a current national level sports person from any Sport England recognised sport. National level is deemed as either a member of a national squad or ranked in the top 10 (UK or England) for your age group. Upon application to the scheme you must provide evidence from your national governing body (signed letter on headed paper) or publicly displayed information about your performance level (eg from the NGB website).
To be a Surrey FANS member, you must also reside in Surrey* for the majority of the year (NB similar schemes operate in other counties.
* Please note, this excludes London boroughs.
Centre Information
There are 33 sports & leisure centres in Surrey that have kindly agreed to be part of the scheme, offering a range of facilities either free or at a very reduced cost. There are sometimes limits on visiting times. For a full list of the current centres and their restrictions, please click here.

Cost
Please note that as of 1 April 2009, there is now a £10 administration fee to join the scheme or renew your membership. Cheques should accompany your application and be made payable to "Surrey County Council". You will receive your FANS membership card within 2 weeks.
