The Elite scheme has now ended
We have made the difficult decision to no longer operate the Elite scheme across Surrey with effect from October 2019.
The remit of Active Partnerships has changed in the last few years with the main funding from Sport England targeted towards inactive people and under-represented groups. Our focus is now on increasing participation in physical activity by the least active - and often most in need - people in our communities.
After six years of the scheme we are sorry that we can no longer directly support some of Surrey's most talented young athletes but there are some other local options for support that are still open:
• FACS (Free Access for County Sportspeople).
Many of Surrey’s local Borough/District councils run these which mean you could still access discounted leisure facility use, but on a more local basis rather than across the county. To find out more about FACS please contact your local Sports / Borough Development Officer.
Talented young athletes can be nominated by their NGB and receive financial help from this national charity.
• Surrey Playing Fields athlete bursary scheme
Surrey Playing Fields are a local, award-winning organisation who work to safeguard the future of the county's parks and green spaces and people's access to sporting facilities. Their bursary scheme can provide a small sum to help with young athlete's costs.
• Sports Councils
Some Sports Councils provide bursary schemes for talented athletes. Most Boroughs/Districts in Surrey have one. Please contact your local Sports Development Officer if you don’t know the details of your Sports Council.
• GLL Foundation
If you live or attend a club in an area serviced by a GLL Sports Cente (such as parts of Reigate and Banstead, Epsom & Ewell, Woking or Guildford), you may be able to enrol in the GLL Foundation programme - read more on their website.
