Who should attend Activating Your Community?
This event is suitable for frontline staff with an interest in getting people active, whether in the commercial or voluntary sectors. With two key note seminars and a broad range of optional workshops, the day will offer a chance to better understand how to engage and work with different populations.
What content will the seminars and workshops cover?
The morning seminar will be lead by The Centre for Physical Education, Sport and Activity (CPESA) at Kingston University. This session will look at how to drive engagement and participation amongst underrepresented groups. In the afternoon, the seminar will be lead by the #MoreThanSport Academy and will guide delegates on how to partner with their local community to achieve social outcomes. Workshops will cover topics such as disability, mental health and dementia awareness, engaging inactive young people and behaviour change techniques through Making Every Contact Count (MECC).

Sported - Girls Unite
Girls Unite is a programme designed to engage socially deprived girls aged 11-18 in physical activity. This workshop will provide you with skills and knowledge to engage these young people.
Activity Alliance - Disability Awareness
This workshop will outline the ten ‘Talk to Me’ principles to support providers to deliver more appealing opportunities for disabled people.
MIND - Mental Health Awareness
This workshop has been designed to give coaches, sport administrators, volunteers and front of house staff the practical tools to help them better support those of us with mental health problems to be more active.

Street Games - Engaing Inactive Young People
This workshop will offer ideas for how you can attract inactive young people to your sessions.
Alzheimer's Society - Dementia Friends
Dementia Friends is the biggest ever initiative
to transform how the nation thinks, acts and talks about dementia. This workshop will provide you and your organisation to be dementia friendly.
Surrey Heartlands - Making Every Contact Count (MECC)
Making Every Contact Count is an evidence-based national initiative which encourages public facing staff to use the opportunities arising during their routine interactions with people to have brief conversations on how they might make positive improvements to their health or wellbeing.
