Surrey is keeping the spirit of the Games alive
Community Games is a great opportunity to bring your community together to take part in sporting and cultural activities inspired by, and in celebration of, the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. In 2012 we had 25 events and in 2013 this grew to 49 events. Help keep the flame alive by organising an event in your area in 2016.
Farnham Community Games sets the standard
Farnham Sport for All Community event showcased the many local opportunities for the community to take part in and try a wide range of sports and physical activites. The event was attended by Rt Hon Jeremy Hunt MP and London 2013 Paralympian Rachel Morris. It was selected as a national example of best practise as you can see from the above video.
Attend your local event
There are Community Games events planned throughout the year across Surrey. Visit the website to find your local event.
Organise your own event
Local groups can access the Community Games toolkit containing information and tips for organising an event (large or small) plus a range of other free resources. For more information contact firstname.lastname@example.org or call 01483 518944.
There is currently no grant funding available from Community Games to support local events. However local County Councillors each have a "Members Allocation" which they can award to local projects.
Also Street Games' Neighbourhood Festivals are offering a similar package.
