Sports Physiology & Sports Medicine Websites

The National Sports Medicine Institute

Established in 1992 to serve as a national focus for all those interested in sports medicine.  It aims to promote good medical practice in the treatment of athletes at all levels.  Its database of journals is searchable back to 1986 and covers a range of topics.  However, if you want the best way to manage an ankle injury, this isn't the best route to the information.

British Journal of Sports Medicine

Offering free access to journal content.

Sportsmed UK

This sites main value is to find specialists in particular areas of sports medicine.  Not much use for run-of-the-mill strains and sprains, but if you happen to have a budding athlete with a problem it would be worth looking here to see if you can find the right expert.

Advice for Doctors at Sports Events

If you want specific advice about the responsibilities of a doctor attending a sporting event, click here, where you can download a 6-page PDF document that contains all you need to know.

Training for Higher Qualifications

Nottingham has a good reputation in sports medicine, and a school of phsiotherapy.  it has designed an excellent website to cover sports medicine & the higher qualifications (for medical practitioners this is either the UK Diploma Examination in Sport & Exercise Medicine or one of the MSc Courses in Sports Medicine).

British Association of Sport & Exercise Science

BASES is a vibrant and growing organisation which is committed to improving and maintaining quality in the teaching of, research into and delivery of sport and exercise science.  The website contains info on: Research; Qualifications; Jobs; and much more.
