In order to achieve the qualification candidates must achieve units 1 & 2
 
The level 1 swimming support coach sits as the first formally assessed qualification on the coaching qualifications pathway.  Unit 1 is a common unit to all of the aquatic strands (Swimming Coaching, Diving, Synchronised Swimming and Water Polo) and has a focus on "how to coach" skills with a technical emphasis on movement literacy as defined by LTAD.  It is envisaged that this unit can be delivered to all coaches who wish to work in the aquatic environment.  Unit 2 has a focus on swimming coaching, technical knowledge and practical skills that will allow the coach to filfil the following descriptor:  
 
To actively support a more senior qualified / licenced swimming coach at any level, in the delivery of a pre-prepared session.  This person will expected to have an understanding of the sport and a basic understanding of appropriate corrections to common faults.
 
The qualification is designed to be delivered using a combination of theory and practice throughout Unit 1 & Unit 2.
 
The course length is 20 1/4 hours theory plus a 45 minute written knowledge test & 11 3/4 hours practical and will include: A total of 32 hours:

This certificate qualifies the holder to support and teach individual swimmers with significant learning, physical or sensory disabilities under the supervision of a qualified disabilities swimming teacher.  After gaining experience the teacher may be permitted to take responsibility for up to 3 disabled swimmers.  Candidates must be at least 18 years old.

This is the industry standard for those wishing to teach unsupervised. Essential for those seeking paid employment.  Once qualified a holder of a Level 2 Certificate for Teaching (Swimming) is one who is able to teach/coach groups, normally consisting of up to 12 participants of a range of ability from the non-swimmer to those involved in pre-competition development and to organise and supervise Level 1 teachers and other helpers.  Minimum age is 18 years of age.  For more info click here.
