to provide you with an introduction to all elements of hockey
including coaching, umpiring and administration, giving you the
knowledge and confidence to plan and conduct a safe, fun session,
including running small-sided games, especially with younger
players.

An exciting series of National
Workshops have been formulated (by England Hockey & World Class
Hockey Ltd) to encourage the correct coaching of core skills
throughout the country. As well as 4 hours of practical
skills (moving with the ball, elimination skils, passing &
receiving, shooting skills, and defending skills), a short
presentation will be made to inform coaches of the Long Term
Athlete Development (LTAD) programme for hockey. Open to all
coaches.

It is the minimum qualification for
those who assist with hockey coaching sessions and is intended to
provide the essential skills and
knowledge necessary to run a safe and enjoyable session for players
looking to be introduced to the game and helped to
improve.
A formal assessment is included within
the course and the candidate will be informed, after the assesment
if they have been assessed as competant against the performance
criteria. Candidates will also complete theory tasks during
the course and be required to sit a multiple choice theory
paper.
The candidate can expect the tutor to
include
* Basic Techniques
* Principles of Play
* Use of small sided games
* The rules of the games
* Underpinning theory
knowledge
* Skills to create a safe, enjoyable and
effective environment.
Candidates should have playing
experience or a Leaders certificate or be involved in
teaching/coaching the game at a basic level.
This includes primary school teachers, club volunteers and helpers,
parents, players, umpires, newly qualified teachers and any person
over 18 years of age who want to become actively involved in
coaching. Candidates aged 16 may participate on
condition that they understand that upon completion of the course
their accreditation will be allocated but they are not permitted to
coach independently until they are 18 years of age.

There are still places available to
attend the Level 3 workshops which are an opportunity for those
wishing to take the next step up from Level 2 or for those aspiring
towards the Level 2 award who are looking for further ideas and to
develop their knowledge.
They consist of a series of workshop
sessions which can be taken as separate modules or completed in
full as part of the Level 3. The workshop sessions that are
currently taking place in the South are to be held as
below:

to umpiring hockey & an excellent stepping stone towards the
competitive game. It's educational, fun & very worthwhile for
anyone wanting to extend their hockey knowledge & be introduced
to umpiring.

Level 1 Umpire
Award
This Award is the
passport to umpiring competitive hockey in England and is aimed at
those who wish to take their umpiring seriously and officiate in
local leagues and club games/events. The Award involves
four hours of classroom tuition, three unsupervised practice games,
an examination paper and a practical
