COUNTY JUNIOR DEVELOPMENT
CENTRES: The new Hockey Trials Process
Surrey County
Hockey Association and Active Surrey Sports Partnership are
combining to organise the selection of "players with potential" for
the U13, U14, U15, U16, U17 and U19 Surrey Junior Academy
Centres for the season 2008 2009.
THE JUNIOR
DEVELOPMENT CENTRES - What is this new
System?
The Single System is devised to provide
continuity in the selection and coaching of players from a local to
National Level and provide a talent identification pathway starting
with Junior Development Centres (JDCs) and Junior Academy Centres
(JAC).
The JDCs will replace what we currently
know as the County trials/assessments and the JACs will be another
name for the County Squad (2008/09 season).
The JDCs will have 2 venues (for the
2008/09 season) and places will be allocated to players at each
venue. The hope is that you attend the
JDC closest to you minimizing your travelling distance but numbers
attending will effect this.
The JAC will be located in central
Surrey for the 2008/09 season but in future will take on a role
where you may attend any JAC in the county that is most convenient
for you.
How do players get
nominated to attend the Junior Development Centres
(JDC)?
All Clubs and schools can
nominate players that they feel have
A. The potential to reach the Junior
Academy Centres or
B. The dedication to develop their
hockey which may see them succeed to a JAC in future
years.
Players will be allocated to a JDC
twhich they will need to attend and players must attend
majority of JDC training to be considered for selection to attend a
JAC.
How do players get to attend a Junior Academy
Centre (JAC)?
The coaches and assessors at each JDC
will assess and evaluate all players and those identified with
talent will be invited to attend the JAC. Up to 25 players may be
selected to attend a JAC per gender age group.
Each age group will be provided
intensive development and training and will play games against
other counties. The JACs will also be used to talent identify
players to attend Regional Centres.
It is our intention to keep the
development pathway into county hockey as open as possible though
we want to promote the JDCs as the primary route.
Players who wish to show commitment to
attend the County JAC would be expected to attend majority of the
Junior Development Centre dates.
Eligibility
- Players must be under the stated age on 1st January 2009. This fits in with England Hockey's age criteria. (eg: if you are 14 years old on this date you are eligible for the U15 Squad).
- Living, attending school or play in a club that is located in Surrey or a South West London Borough
- Nominated by your club or school
Do i have to attend JDCs if i am a previous
representative?
Yes you will need to
attend the JDCs. The new process starts everyone off on an even
playing field, where assumptions wont be made on a players
previous ability.
