ABOUT US

The Active Surrey Sports Partnership (ASSP) is one of a network of 49 County Sports Partnerships (CSP) in England.   Our vision is to make Surrey a more active and successful sporting county

WHAT IS A CSP?
CSPs are locally owned and driven multi-agency partnerships, providing a high quality single system for people to benefit from sport and physical activity; they are a key part of the sporting infrastructure and deliver based on local need by influencing the understanding, interpretation and deployment of national, regional and local policy.

We achieve this in Surrey by working with a wide range of partners including local authorities, schools, governing bodies, clubs, Sport England, sports coach UK, health agencies and many other organisations.
ACTIVE SURREY 2009-12
Following the agreement of new funding contracts for the 2009-12 period, Active Surrey is currently undergoing a major restructure of the business.

Vacancies for new staff are currently being advertised and the Advisory Board is being enlarged.  A conference will be held in November 2009 to update stakeholders on the new set up and to refresh the county's Better Sport frameworks.

Active Surrey are no longer employing sports-specific officers - they are now employed directly through their National Governing Body.  We hope that the new Sport England funding for 46 NGBs will result in even more county based staff and await further news as to the outcomes identified through their new Whole Sport Plans.

ACTIVE SURREY'S PLANS 2008-09
Last year was a busy time with 673 targets to help make Surrey a more active & successful sporting county set out in our 2008-09 Action Plan.  With so many funding partners, we aligned our objectives into eight themes (see below) but still linked to the "Better" frameworks which were agreed in 2006.

ACTIVE SURREY'S ACHIEVEMENTS IN 2008-09

You will soon be able to read the latest Q3 (Sep-Dec 08) report on what Active Surrey has achieved.  In the meantime have a look at previous quarterly reports and our "Balanced Score Card" which gives a summary of how well we are doing on key performance indicators.

ACTIVE SURREY PARTNER CONFERENCES
The Active Surrey Sports Partnership held its 4th conference on Thursday 3 April, 2008, where over 100 delegates from 62 different organisations*  came together in Cobham to hear a keynote speech from the Youth Sport Trust's Chief Executive, Steve Grainger.

Delegates were also introduced to a brand new Government funding programme called Extending Activities which hopes to ensure almost a million more young people can take part in 5 hours a week of curriculum PE and extra-curricular/community sport.

The next conference will be held in November 2009.

BETTER FRAMEWORKS
The 12 "Better" Frameworks have been written, in consultation with dozens of local partners, to offer guidance for all Surrey sporting organisations so that we can all work to achieve common goals.  You can interpret the Frameworks to use within your own policies, strategies, and resources as per your needs.
