Outstanding Service to Sport Doreen Williams (Wishel Tennis Club) and Barry Hitchcock (Surrey Sports Park)

This award is for an individual who has:
The shortlisted nominees are:

Doreen Williams - WINNER
Wishel Tennis Club
Doreen has two main missions in life: Wishel Tennis Club and the Woking and District Tennis League.  Doreen secured the future of Wishel Tennis Club by working to gain the freehold for the current site, when elected as Chairman in 1990.  In 2001, Doreen moved over from Chairman to Secretary, a post that she still holds and commits a number of hours to.  She has more recently taken on the role of Child Protection Officer to support her great enthusiasm for bringing young people into the sport and club.  Doreen has promoted a number of initiatives at the club, including the Play Tennis National Programme, from which emerged the first Junior section of the club.  Doreens positive, enthusiastic and approachable attitude has encouraged and enabled many players all over the area to enjoy competitive tennis.

Charles Watkins
Frensham Ponds Sailing Club
Charles moved to Frensham Ponds Sailing Club in the 1970s after starting his instructing career shortly after the Second World War.  Now in his ninth decade, Charles has been an inspiration to hundreds of novice sailors of all ages, who have learnt to sail from his instructing skills, enthusiasm and yachting knowledge.  During his career, Charles has become a qualified RYA Senior Dinghy Instructor and has been responsible for the directing of courses, decisions regarding their content and delivery, and the approval of candidates for RYA awards.  Charles takes great pleasure in seeing past students become senior instructors and pass their enthusiasm and skills on to new generations.

Olive Carroll
Woking Swimming Club
Olive has been an invaluable volunteer to Woking Swimming Club since 1979.  She has had several roles within the club, in particular Team Manager, a post that she still holds after 26 years.  She is heavily involved in team selection and regularly attends meetings with coaches, and participates at committee meetings and training sessions.  Olives commitment has gone beyond the club: she has promoted the Surrey Championships and was on the Surrey Executive Committee for 10 years.  Olive was the swimming Team Manager for the first 4 Surrey Youth Games, which her team won!  Her support of the club and its swimmers over 30 years has made her much appreciated by all those associated with the club.
