The shortlisted nominees are:

Bethany Brookes - WINNER
Reigate Lawn Tennis Club
At the age of just 15 Bethany reached the final of this years ladies singles in the National Deaf Tennis Championships. She has also been selected to represent Great Britain and will be joining the National Deaf Tennis Squad later this year.  This selection will give Bethany the opportunity to represent Great Britain in the 2011 Deaf Davis Cup, the 2012 European Championships and the 2013 Deaflympics in Athens.  In addition to playing in national tournaments, Bethany regularly represents her school and is an active member of Reigate Lawn Tennis Club.  Bethany also appeared on the BBC See Hear programme encouraging others to get involved in deaf sports.  Her attitude and achievements make her an outstanding role model.

Alex Hovden
Queen Mary Sailing Club
Alex suffers from severe athetoid cerebral palsy which means he only has the use of one arm, has difficulty with communication and is a permanent wheelchair user.  Despite only starting to sail in 2005, Alex finished 5th in last years Sailability Multiclass Championships and 18th at the World Challenger Championships.  This success meant that Alex was signed up as a full member of the Challenger Transition Squad with possible selection to the 2012 Paralympic Squad. In 2008 Alex beat able-bodied sailors to win the Thames Valley Young Sailor of the Year before finishing runner up for the National title.

Liam Duhig
Westerleigh Judokwai Club
Liam suffers from dyspraxia, resulting in both verbal and motor learning difficulties.  At 16 he took up judo and has gone on to compete in various special needs competitions, including the European Championships in Sweden, where he won silver, and the Great British Summer Games, at which he won silver and gold.  He recently visited Walton Leigh Special School to inspire budding athletes to join the local inclusive sports club, showing off the bronze medal he won in Chinas 2007 Special Olympics which also won him the 2008 Surrey Disability Sports Award.  He is nominated again this year for his achievement in winning the silver medal at the south east special needs judo finals.
