SPORTS CLUB
OF THE
YEAR
This award is for the sports club
that has:
- attained Clubmark, or are actively working towards it;
- a proven track record of working with schools, local authorities and other community organisations;
- affiliated to the relevant National Governing Body;
- evidence of a commitment to effective recruitment, recognition and training;
- a senior and junior section;
- provided sporting opportunities for all;
- Shared ideas and best practice with other sports clubs.
The shortlisted nominees
are:
Ebbisham Sports Club -
WINNER
Ebbisham Sports Club is a
successful and supportive club in Epsom that consists of three
sections badminton, squash and tennis. All three
sections have gained Clubmark and the badminton section has also
recently been awarded with Badminton England Performance Centre
status. Ebbisham Sports Club has many links with
the local community, providing the site for many youth and
community projects. The club is also committed
to developing coaches and officials who, in turn, often support
these projects. The club has a junior and senior
section for the three sports and strives to offer a high quality
and friendly environment for all.
Ashtead Cricket Club
Ashtead Cricket Club is a
successful club catering for juniors and
seniors. The club has achieved Clubmark through
the ECB and is also a recognised focus club.
Ashtead Cricket Club supports the Cricket Foundations Chance to
Shine programme, providing sporting opportunities for over 300
young people at five local state schools and one special needs
school. The continued commitment of the club to
work with partners and develop facilities has meant that they have
the support structure needed to grow and provide many more
opportunities for young people within Mole
Valley. The club has a clear policy for
recruitment and retention of players and actively supports the
training of all coaches.
Guildford City Youth
Project
The Guildford City Youth Project
provides cricket coaching and matches for young players from
minority communities and schools that either do not have access to
formal coaching or the facilities to play
cricket. It also provides the opportunity for
those from different ethnic backgrounds to interact and gain a
better understanding of each others culture.
Guildford City has a developing Junior and Senior
section. It is dedicated to supporting young
people to obtain coaching qualifications, therefore allowing them
to remain involved in the continuing development of the
club. The club is also affiliated to the ECB and
is actively working towards Club Accreditation.
