PERSONALITY OF THE YEAR
The Young Sports Personality of
the Year award is for an individual aged 18 years or under (as of
31 August 2009) who has:
- made significant progress in the field of sport;
- had significant impact on sport in Surrey and been an inspiration to others;
- exceeded expectations in their sporting performance or made a significant difference to a team.
The shortlisted nominees
are:
Zak Jesse - WINNER
England Alpine Ski
Team
Now 15 years old, Zak started
skiing on snow at the age of 3. Zak has
progressed from being a member of the Aldershot race team with
regular training on artificial ski slopes at High Wycombe to
success at national and international level. For
the second year running, Zak is combined English Champion in
Slalom, Giant Slalom and Super Giant Slalom. In
2009, Zak was selected to race for Great Britain in Andorra.
Competing against 27 countries, Zak finished 3rd in the
slalom and 2nd in both Giant and Super Giant
Slalom. These performances mean that he now
leads the Great Britain rankings for all three
events
Adele
Tracy
Guildford & Godalming Athletics
Club
At 16 years of age, Adele is
currently ranked 4th in the UK for the U17
800m. In 2009 she won the Southern Counties
Championship title beating the longstanding club record that had
been set in 1985. In July this year, Adele was
also selected to represent Great Britain and Northern Ireland in
the U18 800m at the European Youth Olympic Festival in
Finland. She came an impressive 2nd
place. Adeles dedicated attitude has allowed her
to develop as an athlete and inspire others in the local
area
Jessica
Carl
Camberley Judo
Club
Jessica joined Camberley Judo Club
following success at the 2006 Surrey Youth Games, where she won a
bronze medal in the Judo event. In 2007, Jessica
returned to the Surrey Youth Games and this time won the U12 gold
medal. Later the same year, Jessica also won
silver in the U12 age group at the British Judo Association A Band
Nationals. In 2008 she went on to win the title,
becoming the British U12 champion. Jessica has
also represented her county, is the reigning Independent Schools
Champion and was invited to train with the England
cadets. Jessica regularly supports Camberley
Judo club by taking part in displays and other
events.
