INFORMATION FOR CLUBS
Some sports clubs may benefit from
volunteering schemes run via their National Governing Body.
However, sports clubs, like charities,
arts and heritage organisations, also face similar issues when
dealing with volunteers. To help with these issues a host of
organisations are in place to provide advice, guidance and
potential funding to support existing volunteers and attract new
ones.
Whilst Volunteering England can give
direct answers to volunteering questions via their free hotline,
runningsports have masses of handy hints and tips! The Active
Surrey Sports Partnership has also identified some aspects of
sports volunteering which affect most sports clubs and
posted appropriate guidance on the website.
Sports volunteers require training.
Their need for more knowledge and skills may be identified before
they start, or during their volunteering in the light of their
performance and involvement. Regardless, training is vitally
important in ensuring that volunteers are better at what
they do and more flexible in what they would
like to do for their club, whilst the club can show that
it recognises their valuable contribution. Trained volunteers
not only make your club more effective, they are also more likely
to enjoy themselves for a "job well done" and continue
volunteering!
