EVENTS NEEDING VOLUNTEERS

Just like clubs, events need volunteers for them to take place.  Whether you wish to complete hours for your leadership awards or just help with the running of sport, volunteering at events is always a great way to get new experience, have fun and make new friends.

Below is a list of current events requiring volunteers - just click on the links, find out where and when the events you're interested in are held, and apply now!

The P&G Surrey Youth Games
21 & 22 June 2008
The P&G Surrey Youth Games 2007 took place on 23 & 24 June - and needed over 250 volunteers to help organise it.
They helped more than 2,000 young competitors compete for their boroughs, in sports including tennis, hockey, football, rugby and boccia.
Now the dates for 2008 have been announced please keep your diary open to help us run an even bigger and better event! Details of how to volunteer will be here shortly.

HOCKEY
Junior Development Centres
The Surrey Hockey Association needs lots of volunteers to help with the Junior Development Centres (County Trials), which will take place in Surbiton, Broadwater and Woking throughout April to July!
Click here to show your interest in helping - and please note you do NOT have to have specific Hockey knowledge to lend your support!

BASKETBALL
National Basketball Steering Group - Mencap Sport
Mencap, as the governing body for learning disability sport in England, works in partnership with a range of sports providers to ensure that opportunities exist at all levels for people with a learning difficulty to enjoy sport.
Extensive Mencap programmes of national championship events and support for gifted and talented athletes will be expanded in 2008 to cover Basketball - and volunteers are needed to form a national steering group!
Applicants should be experienced in Basketball, have an understanding of the English sports structure and be available to give about 8 days per year, including some weekends (travel and other relevant expenses will be covered).
There is no formal closing date for applications, but it is hoped that the steering group will meet early in the New Year.
For further information on the steering group and to discuss your possible involvement, please contact Nick Parr on 01924 234912.
Applications should be made in writing with an accompanying CV to:
Mencap Sport, Calderdale Rd, Wakefield, Yorkshire WF1 5PE. Alternatively, you can e-mail the details to sport@mencap.org.uk.
