COUNT ME IN
TO HELP
THE SURREY YOUTH GAMES 2008!

Every year the Surrey Youth Games is a huge success due, in part, to the fantastic work of all the volunteers that help out over the weekend.

The Surrey Youth Games 2008 are no different!  This year the Games are to be held over one weekend only (Saturday 21st and Sunday 22nd June), providing an opportunity for young people to compete in a large scale sporting event involving 14 sports, representing the borough/district in which they live or go to school.

The sports involved are:

Athletics Boccia Football
Basketball Badminton Judo
Hockey Futsal Netball
Tennis Swimming Fencing
Rugby Squash

These competitions will run across five different venues in Guildford:
As you can see from this the weekend will be very, very busy!

Below are some of the tasks you could undertake .....

OFFICIATING
Officials, Umpires and Referees are vitally important to the smooth running of the event and to ensure fair play throughout the competition.

New & experienced officials are always required to help over the weekend as there are literally thousands of fixtures. New officials have been encouraged to help through their involvement with the SYCO programme, following on from training courses to take advantage of opportunities to practice skills and build confidence by helping at Active Surrey events prior to the Games weekend.

COACHING
Like Team Management (see above), opportunities exist for coaches to get involved in the lead up to, and at, the Games.

New & experienced coaches are always required to help in the build up to the Games and over the weekend as there are literally hundreds of training sessions and matches.  New coaches have been encouraged to help through their involvement with the SYCO programme, following on from training courses to take advantage of opportunities to practice skills and build confidence by helping at local clubs and at Active Surrey events prior to the Games weekend.

If you would like to help coach borough/district squads, either in the lead up to, or at, the Games weekend, whether you are new or experienced, we would love to hear from you.  Please contact your local Sports/Leisure Development Officer as listed on the
How to Take Part page.

EVENT ORGANISATION
If you would like to help with one of the sports events and its organisation, whether through manning the results service, marshalling, ensuring everyone enjoys competing safely etc, please complete a Count Me In application form.

SURREY YOUTH GAMES SUPPORT
We are also looking for adults (18+) to help with the P&G Surrey Youth Games overall - manning information tents, safety marshalling etc.
You'll need to be enthusiastic, able to deal with spectator and player queries and be quite responsible too!
Given the nature of this role we wish to hear from people who currently hold enhanced CRB disclosures from Surrey County Council. If you are interested, and have an up-to-date CRB check, please contact John Woodroffe: 01483 518943 / john.woodroffe@surreycc.gov.uk

______________________________________________________________________________

Through fulfilling one of the above roles you'll be making an important contribution to the biggest youth sports event in the county, whether it is for the event as a whole or for your local borough/district!  There are lots of things you can do to help you complete your volunteering hours for SYCO, Duke of Edinburgh, Millennium Volunteers and Sports Leadership Awards - just fill in and send us a COUNT ME IN application form to let us know what you want to do!

If you have any specific questions on volunteering for the Surrey Youth Games, contact John Woodroffe, the Sports Leadership & Volunteering Development Officer:
