School Club Link Agreements

Developing a school club link agreement

School Club Link agreements need not be complicated; they simply outline the agreed principles of working. The agreement allows each party to clearly understand their roles and responsibilities, share plans and expectations.

When creating a link agreement young peoples needs and wants should be the driving factor, and may include: participation, performance, sports specific, multi sport, leadership, coaching, volunteering.

The commitment of both the school and the club are key elements along with; a list of and signatures of contacts; an action plan; and; date of review.

The links should be about quality not quantity, so set realistic and sustainable goals.

A Template school club link agreement is provided here>>.

Agreements should be reviewed annually, preferably at the beginning of the academic year in September.

Why sign the agreement?

It is recognised that time is needed to complete the agreement, but by formalising the link you are clearly and openly demonstrating the commitment each party is making to the link.

In addition, should one of the key people leave details of the link will be clearly documented so that a new lead can easily pick up the reigns; thereby ensuring that there is good continuity and that the link is sustained. Remember the agreement is about the principles of working, and is the key to ensuring the legacy of the link.

N.B. Some NGBs / SSPs have their own school club links templates, which clubs may be aware of. These templates have been used as the basis for the generic template.

Action: A copy of the agreement should be sent by the school (via Primary Link Teacher/ School Sport Co-ordinator) to the Partnership Development Manager and by the club to their NGB officer. This is their record that a link is taking place.
