Powerade Surrey Sports Awards 2007

We are very excited to announce the inaugural Surrey Sports Awards fuelled by Powerade, the isotonic sports drink, to take place in October! For the first time, local people across Surrey will be celebrated and recognised for their contribution to community sport.

The Powerade Surrey Sports Awards will take place at the prestigious Royal Holloway University of London in Egham, on the evening of Sunday 14th October. Involving Sport England, National Governing Bodies of Sport, Local Authorities and Sports Councils, the Awards will recognise and applaud those people who have helped to transform sport for the better in Surrey. Awards will be announced in 11 different categories (covering clubs, coaches, volunteers, teams and schools) and the winners will be automatically nominated for regional and national sports awards, like the sports coach UK Coach of the Year and BBC Regional Sports Personality of the Year Awards.

The Powerade Surrey Sports Awards will particularly highlight the fabulous efforts of the many volunteers that commit hour after hour to help ensure that sport around the county continues to prosper and thrive.  To acknowledge their contribution to sport, over 400 people connected and involved in sport within the county, including mayors, local politicians and other VIPs will be in attendance to show their appreciation.

We are particularly happy to announce that Mark Richardson, the former Great Britain 400m runner who has won an Olympic Silver medal and a Gold at the World Championship's, will be attending the evening to speak about his sporting experiences and to congratulate the winners of the Powerade Surrey Sports Awards.

The following categories will be awarded at the Powerade Surrey Sports Awards:

Nominees for the Powerade Surrey Sports Awards must have already won an award at a local level (e.g. local authority awards, National / County governing body award, sports council awards etc).  Subsequently nominations have been made by Sports Development Officers, Governing Bodies of Sport, Local Sports Councils and School Sports Partnerships.

A SHORTLIST OF NOMINEES has been drawn up for each award by an Independent Panel.

Active Surrey would like to thank all of the sponsors who have supported the running of the Surrey Sports Awards, as without their generosity this event would not be able to run.  Particular thanks to Powerade, who are the Surrey Sports Awards headline sponsor for 2007.
