WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT

WHAT IS WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT?

It is a relatively new term which relates to the process of helping all people that are involved in the delivery of sport and active recreation to reach their potential.  It means all "staff" - everyone from volunteers to professionals, groundstaff to coaches, orange slicers to secretaries, referees to kit washers.

WHY IS IT IMPORTANT?

Workforce Development is an overarching phrase to describe all the work that is being put in to properly plan improvements to all "staff".  Research has indicated that we urgently need to expand the workforce in order to meet the increase in participation that is forecast over the next few years, especially with the impact of the London 2012 Games.

WHERE CAN I GET HELP?

A Survey of the current state of the Workforce was undertaken in January 2007 from which a detailed Workforce Development Strategy was written for each county in England - these Strategies will be used as evidence to support applications to Regional Sports Boards, Learning & Skills Councils, The European Union and HM Government departments.  Once we have confirmation of how to apply for funding we will post details here.
