HISTORY OF SURREY'S COUNTY SPORTS PARTNERSHIP
Making Surrey a more active and successful sporting county
- 1996 - Surrey Sports Development Unit (SSDU) opens as a partnership between Surrey County Council (SCC), University of Surrey and Sport England.
- 1997 - Inaugural Surrey Youth Games with input from Sport England, SCC, Surrey Sport, all 11 boroughs & districts and various governing bodies of sport.
- 2000 - Surrey Sports Partnership (SSP) builds on previous activities by starting a 7 year sports development programme ("Active Sports") across the county, working with 6 sports, using brand name "Active Surrey".
- 2004 - Wider agenda (more sports, all ages, activity, health, etc) sought by Sport England for County Sports Partnership Network.
- 2005 - SSDU staff integrated with SSP staff to form Active Surrey Sports Partnership (ASSP) core team. ASSP makes successful application to Regional Sports Board for lottery funding to fund development in 2005-09.
- 2006 - ASSP launched with 90 partners signing up to deliver "Better" Frameworks.
- 2009 - Strategic direction to be decided by Surrey Sports Board with support from Active Surrey team around NGB core service requirements and extended service project funding.
