TOWARDS AN EXCELLENT SERVICE

The Towards an Excellent Service (TAES) model provides a basis for self-assessment that enables organisations to identify areas in which they are performing well together with priority areas for improvement.

The  excellence framework has been developed using existing quality management models, inspection frameworks and accreditation systems such as EFQM, Investors in People (IIP) and Quest.

It is based around eight factors believed to most strongly influence the quality of sport and recreation services. These themes are: 1) Leadership, 2) Policy & Strategy, 3) Community Engagement, 4) Partnership Working, 5) Use of Resources, 6) People Management, 7) Service Standards and 8) Performance Measurement & Learning. Each theme is broken down into set criteria defining core aspects of a quality service.

The Active Surrey Sports Partnership signed up to use the TAES framework in November 2005 as part of our commitment to continuous improvement.  The key benefits of this approach include:

OUR SELF-ASSESSMENT

Active Surrey Sports Partnership carried out its self-assessment by holding a series of workshops and meetings with core staff, Management Group representatives and partners between November 2005 and March 2006. This process of evidence gathering provided an insight into the areas in which the Partnership's performance was rated as Poor, Fair, Good and Excellent.

Please click on the links below to view a graphical illustration of our findings as well as a detailed outline of identified strengths, weaknesses and areas for improvement:

ASSP - TAES Summary Overview Report

External validation by an independent validator substantiated the internal findings of the Partnership's self-assessment and concurred with an overall rating as a 'GOOD' organisation.

Summary feedback from the one day validation highlighted particular strengths in relation to Leadership and People Management and identified key areas for improvement under Community Engagement and Partnership Working.

A regional comparison of results across County Sports Partnership's in the South East has been carried out as part of a benchmarking exercise to idenitify opportunities for the provision of peer support.  Please click on the link below to view these results.

IMPROVEMENT PLANNING

As the final stage in the initial TAES process, ASSP is using the outcomes of the self-assessment to inform the development of an Improvement Plan.  Please click on the heading below for further details:
