BETTER COMPETITION
London's successful Olympic bid for 2012
has brought into sharp focus the importance of competition
structures and our volunteer and young leader
networks.
The aim of this document is to provide
structure to the development of Better Competition in Surrey. The
Framework aims to help provide greater opportunities to increase
the numbers of people taking part in high quality competitive
opportunities. It encourages enhanced competition through club
sport, the delivery of major events such as the Youth Games, as
well as providing a strategic direction to the evolving picture
around National School competition framework, roll out of
Competition managers and the delivery of key targets in Sport
England's Regional Plan for Sport, Mission:Possible.
The framework recognises the current
good practice that is being delivered by existing partners in the
county but challenges them to define their roles and what they have
to do to achieve Surrey's vision.
This Framework outlines where
Surrey aims to be with regards to Competition by 2009.
It has the following underlying
aspirations:
- To promote high quality competitive environments as being a standard in Surrey sport
- To increase the number of people participating in competitive opportunities
- To increase the number and quality of competitions
- To increase the number of competitive opportunities for under-represented groups
- To increase the number of people participating in sports and physical activity by 1% year on year.
The Framework gives examples of how this can be achieved to assist partners to write implementation plans, which will be a key part in delivering Surrey's strategic objectives. It acknowledges the need for the improved co-ordination of competition across Surrey and more effective communication and commitment to partnership working.
