CHOOSING HEALTH
This White Paper sets out the key
principles for supporting the public to make healthier and more
informed choices in regards to their health. The Government will
provide information and practical support to get people motivated
and improve emotional wellbeing and access to services so that
healthy choices are easier to make.

CHOOSING
ACTIVITY
A physical activity action plan sets out
Government's plans to encourage and co-ordinate the action of a
range of departments and organisations to promote increased
participation in physical activity across England. It is a summary
of how we will deliver the commitments on physical activity
presented in the public health white paper Choosing Health: making
healthier choices easier. It brings together all the commitments
relating to physical activity in Choosing Health as well as other
action across government, which will contribute to increasing
levels of physical activity.

WEEK
This document is particularly aimed at the
NHS, specifically public health and Primary Care Trusts. The report
sets out the latest research evidence of the benefits of physical
activity for health. The document is aimed at those concerned with
formulating and implementing policies or programmes that utilise
the promotion of physical activity, sport, exercise and active
travel to achieve health gain.

active in 1998 (5 times a week, 30 minutes, moderate intensity) to
70% in 2020.

EVERYDAY
SPORT
Sport England has
been set a target by Government of increasing participation in
sport and physical activity by 3% in the next three years. Everyday
Sport is the first major initiative in this long-term
plan. The Everyday Sport campaign is all about small
steps making a big difference. Everyday Sport can mean different
things to different people, from taking the stairs instead of the
lift or getting off the bus a stop early, to joining a sports club
or registering for an exercise class. More>>

A strategy to make the South East an active
and successful sporting region through increasing
participation levels, reducing inequalities, increasing club
memberships and improving coaching, increasing participation in
competition and increasing the number and quality of leaders.

An overall strategy for the south-east
region which not only urges individual people to take up
regular physical activity, but also encourages a concerted effort
from schools and colleges, care and residential homes, leisure
centres, the NHS and social care, voluntary and consumer groups,

HEALTH, DEVELOPING HEALTHY LIFESTYLES
2004
This document demonstrates the work of the
Health Promotion Service, Primary Care Trusts in West Surrey and
West Surrey Stop Smoking Service deliver programmes for nutrition,
weight management, obesity, physical activity, smoking cessation
and tobacco control.

WEIGHT
MANAGEMENT GUIDELINES 2004
These guidelines seek to bring together the
most up to date evidence based on information on the management of
overweight and obesity among adults. These are
comprehensive and cover a wide range of topics encompassing the
causes and health risks of obesity, the barriers to weight control
and importance of behaviour modification, screening for eating
disorders and the role of diet, physical activity, pharmacotherapy
and surgery in the management of obesity.

YOUNG PEOPLE
AND THEIR HEALTH 2002
In 1997 West Surrey Health Authority
initiated and funded a major five-year project to assess trends in
the health-related behaviour of young people.
This final report summarises the findings of the three surveys
undertaken in nine secondary schools in 1997, 1999 and
2001. This report contains a wide spectrum of
information on the lifestyle behaviours of West Surrey young
people.
