STEP INTO SPORT
![]()
Step into Sport (SiS) is a national scheme run by Sport England, Sports Leaders UK and the Youth Sport Trust to engage with young people as sports volunteers. It's a great way for young people aged 16 to 19 to get trained as sports leaders and then contribute to their local community by volunteering to help at a quality local sports club.
SiS is open to young people attending schools or colleges within School Sports Partnership (SSP) areas, and who are undertaking leadership awards such as CSLA or an NVQ or Diploma in sports coaching/leadership, currently volunteering in local sports clubs or
who have already gained an NGB qualification.
The Step into Sport Conference
For 2008 young students attended a conference at the University of Surrey, where they learnt new skills to use in community sports volunteering. They will then volunteer in school, other schools, events and quality-assured local sports clubs, and record their volunteering hours online on the Step into Sport Volunteer Passport.
More details on the 2008 Step into Sport conference can be found here.
For the previous year the conference was held at Lightwater Leisure Centre.
The Step into Sport Volunteer Passport
The Volunteer Passport is a new website where young people (aged 14-19) can record their hours online for national volunteering certificates:
- Bronze - 50 hours
- Silver - 100 hours
- Gold - 200 hours
Please click here to have a look at the website.
