COMMUNITY SPORTS COACH SCHEME
NEWS RELEASE - MONDAY 8 JANUARY 2007
The Active Surrey Sports
Partnership is delighted to welcome in the new Year by announcing
another round of funding to help organisations employ full-time
and/or part-time Sports Coaches within Surrey as part of the
national Community Sports Coach Scheme.
The Community Sports Coach
Scheme (CSCS) aims to establish, across the
country, a network of paid, qualified Community Sports Coaches
working at local level. These posts will
increase the number and range of high-quality coaching
opportunities according to strategic and local
need.
Surrey organisations can
now apply for funding through the Lottery Community Investment
Fund; up to £36,000 is available per coach to help with
employment costs over a 3 year contract. (NB Organisations
would need to match fund applications on a 2:1
basis).
These posts will increase the number and
range of coaching opportunities according to strategic and local
need. It is intended that the scheme will result
in:
- A new career structure for coaching;
- An increase in the number of qualified coaches employed locally;
- Quality recruitment, employment, management and development of coaches;
- Managed, quality continuous professional development support for employed coaches; &
- High-quality coaching for the local community.
The funding available through the scheme
is one element of the overall strategic approach being taken by
members of the Active Surrey Sports Partnership to develop the
coaching workforce in Surrey, including attracting new people into
coaching and support for existing coaches working in a voluntary
capacity.
