SYCO RESULTS 2006
??? sports-mad youngsters aged 14-19 have taken part in the third year of Surrey's Young Coaches & Official's (SYCO) Programme.
The pupils came from across the county from 50 schools, 5 colleges and 4 universities (click here for a full list).
17 Coaching & Officiating Award courses covering 9 sports took place at venues across the county, between October 2004 and July 2005, providing youngsters with (local) opportunities to become qualified.
All attendees have been encouraged to help out at local sports clubs and sporting events and have been given volunteer logbooks to complete to gain certificates for 15, 25 or 50 hours of volunteering.
Many people have volunteered since they achieved a qualification and been rewarded with certificates. 6 lucky volunteers have since attended a "sports leaders into coaching" project set up by the sports coach UK Coach Development Officer and the Active Surrey Sports Partnership. The project identifies volunteers who have completed a minimum of 25 SYCO hours in coaching environment who are then supported, via a scholarship, to improve their professional development as a coach and mentored in the club environment by an individual.
