Following on from the past success of the Programme in Surrey (click here for a report), we have developed another series of exciting training opportunities, which will enable YOU to take your first steps in coaching and officiating.

Read on and double click on the red text for more information........

What will SYCO offer me?

Qualifications, Skills,  Friendship, Leadership, Certification, Employment, FUN!!

...the SYCO Programme is a fantastic opportunity to get and stay involved in Surrey sport.

Coach & Officiate at major sporting events

Which sports can I do?

The latest Programme consists of Leadership,

Coaching & Officiating Courses specially designed for 14-19 year olds in the sports of....

...and each course costs between £20 and £40!!  (Normal course fees can be anything up to £70)

What people have said about SYCO

"I was really scared before I got here, but this course is brilliant and I'm having an excellent day", said Ami Johnson (16) from Hampton about the Swimming Helpers Course.

Ria Nicholls (14), also from Hampton, added, "I hate it when people say that there's nothing to do you just have to open your eyes and see courses like SYCO and get involved."

What can I do with my qualification?

Apart from looking great on your CV, you can actually put your newly acquired skills into practice at a host of different clubs, coaching sessions or sporting events.  When you attend one of the courses you will be informed of local volunteering opportunities to suit you.

There are certificates available for SYCO attendees who commit to 15, 25 or 50 hours of community sport volunteering and this could help you complete Sports Leaders UK Awards, the Duke of Edinburgh Service Section, ASDAN Awards, Millennium Volunteers / v Awards and even lead onto full- or part-time paid employment in sport!

Once you have completed 50 hours of community sports volunteering and you're aged 16 or over, then you're eligible for all the benefits that our Sports Leaders into Coaching scheme can give you - more information is here.

There are also opportunities to use your qualification to spend the summer getting paid working in the USA at a summer camp.  Find out more by logging on to www.campleaders.com

How do I apply?

Step Into Sport

Step Into Sport is an initiative whereby students undertaking a Community Sports Leadership Award at school* can attend a specialist sports volunteering conference, receive individual mentoring and access tailored volunteering placements at a sports club.  This level of support for new volunteers can help them achieve nationally recognised awards.

Click here for information about the programme in Surrey.

(* the school must be within a School Sports Partnership)
